About Our Founder

Dr. Beverly L. Downing, a veteran manager and leader in Higher Education.  Currently serves as Associate Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Huston-Tillotson University. She has also served as the Director of Institutional Planning, Research, and Assessment, Director of Sponsored Programs and Title III, and SACSCOC Liaison. Dr. Downing has over forty years of innovative senior-level educational leadership experience.

Rising from faculty rank to full tenure and promotion at two Universities including the status of Professor, Dr. Downing has served capably in virtually every area of higher education. She has proven community collaboration and partnership development skills. She has worked with local schools and institutions to increase enrollment and student retention with phenomenal results at three institutions. Downing has extensive fundraising experiences through grants, matching funds, alumni, donor programs, and funders such as Kresge Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and numerous state and federal grants. Dr. Downing has developed extensive curriculum, and program development expertise building accredited degree programs to attract academic talent.

Her experiences span both private and public universities. She has served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Paul Quinn College, Kentucky State University, and Coppin State University. Her extensive background in accreditation and grant writing has provided the opportunity to understand the global perspective of Universities of all levels and sizes. She has provided technical assistance for more than two dozen private and public universities, each resulting in successful accreditation results. Downing has earned over 40 million dollars in successful grants during her career.

Dr. Downing is a native of Washington, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education at Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC, her Master of Science in Adapted Physical Education at Hampton University, and her Doctor of Arts in Pedagogy from Middle Tennessee State University. A two-sport college Hall of Famer, Downing also has over 15 years of successful college coaching experience, including a member of the USA Olympic Basketball coaching staff.

She has completed several leadership training programs, including the Harvard Management Development Program, and the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellowship Program.
