Drawing inspiration from the example of her grandmother, Ethel K. Downing, Dr. Downing pursued a career in higher education. In recent years, she also had a Female Athlete of the Year Award named in her honor. Though her career has been suffused with highlights, she is most proud to have transformed Kentucky State University from a level three to a level five university, and to have brought St. Augustine’s College back to accreditation status. In the near future, Dr. Downing intends to retire from higher education so she can establish her own business.
